Las Vegas Love Affair
Twenty years ago, I was sitting in a casino in Las Vegas and ordered a drink. A lovely dark-skinned, well-bottomed waitress brought my beer, and I chatted her up. She was from Wichita, Kansas. After she left, I wrote a poem on the back of the menu, walked to the bar, and said: ”Hey beautiful, I wrote a poem for you." I gave it to her, and she started reading. While reading, there were some fast intakes of air, and at some moment, she blushed (can you imagine, the poem was so steamy it made a black face blush!) She really liked it but didn't accept my invitation to go for a drink that night. Oh well, what can a man do?
Judge for yourself:
This is a poem from my first collection of poetry “ Gedichten over God en andere Vrouwen/ Poems about God and other Women”. Still available, written half in Dutch, half in English.
